Ceris travels from Newark to the Charnwood Orchestra
rehearsals with Ros, Helen and Sarah, 3 violins and
a cello, 4 stands, 4 handbags and a good supply of
something to suck!
It takes them nearly an hour, which gives them time
to catch up on their week's frustrations at work,
latest ailments and the endless peculiarities of men!
The four of them also play in the 'Blussh' quartet.
They usually play acoustic instruments, but they've
also had a lot of fun playing electric in concert
with a full scale rock band.
They're still waiting for an invitation from Jools,
but nothing yet.
For the rest of the time Ceris works in Sleaford,
at Bridge Instruments, a company she started 10 years
ago with a fellow violinmaker. She designed and now
manufactures a range of high tech electric violins,
cellos and basses, supplying instruments to musicians
in such bands as The Levellers, Dolly Parton, Riverdance
and Mc Fly.
Although Ceris' training is in violin-making and
repairing, the chisels and gouges are increasingly
replaced with spreadsheets and cashflow forecasts
- the joys of a small business!
Having said that, her skills are still called on at
Charnwood, and she was presented with a fair selection
of needy violins after the summer break.
Ceris has been a member of Charnwood Orchestra for
about 2 years now and she says she has been made really
welcome from day one. "It's a real pleasure and
privilege to play alongside all these talented musicians
and Nick is just the best!"
She is looking forward to this season of concerts
especially as next April we are playing on her home
patch at Newark. The party after will be at hers!
