While most of us take Sunday to unwind and recover
from the past week's tribulations, David's job comes
to a head on Sundays. Indeed, he says "I only
work on Sundays". Of course, we know that that's
not true.
As Vicar of Quorn, he's on duty most of the time,
with one part of the community or another. When he
isn't taking a service, he's probably out there, visiting,
supporting or counselling. He feels that Charnwood
Orchestra is a bit of a life-line - something completely
different from his usual activities and he counts
members of the orchestra as really good friends.
David plays second violin: "towards the back
where I can't do any harm". He's been playing
with Charnwood for 16 years and has played under three
conductors: Andrew Constantine, Paul Hilliam and Nic
Fallowfield. He doesn't play in any other groups so
C.O. gets his undivided attention. However, his other
hobby involves anything mechanical, "especially
if it has wheels and an engine". He hasn't divulged
what he does with this hobby but he does describe
himself as a "petrol-head". Intriguing!
David must qualify as the player with the shortest
distance to travel to rehearsals: 5 minutes down the
road when he walks, but I am reliably informed that
he has been seen accepting a lift, when it takes 30
seconds. Perhaps he was bringing the coffee box.
He says "After last night's rehearsal, I'm
thinking of selling my violin." Please don't.
We need you!
